Current trends that have been going strong for quite some time now are food halls. It’s convenient for people to be able to eat together, yet still decide what they want to eat while sitting communally with one another. Every city especially in Orange County has been trying to open one late, especially with the success of The Anaheim Packing District.
This time, located in the heart of The District of Tustin are quite a few eateries with Hatch being included as one of them. Hatch is fun, very small but they do offer patio seating as well. A Tiki Bar theme which also serves sliders as their main item. I arrived here on a Friday early dinner time, yet they already so busy so not much seating was left, fortunately they had patio dining and the weather was just gorgeous outside. Service was slow to start off but got better throughout our dinner. We started off with their Brussel sprouts which had a soy glaze and sausage.
The Brussel sprouts were deep fried and perfectly crisp, as the soy glaze had a sweet and salty balance, as the sausage added a savory bite. We also went with the Chicharones with came along with a Sriracha Citrus dipping sauce. This was delicious! The Chicharones were perfectly fried to crisp and still very hot, seasoned, and then the citrus dipping sauce gave a nice acidic taste to brighten up the flavors. For my sliders I went with their skirt steak which had a corn salsa, fried egg, and roasted garlic aioli served on a mini brioche bun.
The flavors were great, I just wish the skirt steak was not large cubed pieces and rather a few thinner, larger slices of the skirt steak, this made it really difficult to eat. The flavors were good so I did enjoy this did. My second slider I went with was the Fried Soft Shell Crab, this hands down was my favorite of the night, perfectly crisp and not oily at all. Served with a tomato, greens, and a togarashi aioli. On the side I had parmesan garlic fries, and onion rings. I loved that they offered shoestring fries as these are my favorite since I love crispy textures, and the garlic and parmesan just topped it off. The onion rings were panko breaded and fried to a perfect golden crisp, I pretty much ate the entire thing, however I do love onion rings.
By this point I was too full to even think about dessert so I had to pass on a sweet ending. Overall impression of Hatch, I would definitely come back, the atmosphere is fun and the food is good. Prices are very affordable and don’t think a side and two sliders won’t fill you up, their portions are quite generous in my opinion. I hope you enjoy Hatch as I did, let me know what you all think!
